Our History
The American Basketball Association (ABA) was founded in 1967, bringing an innovative and exciting brand of basketball to fans across the United States. Known for its distinctive red, white, and blue basketball and high-flying style of play, the ABA quickly became a fan favorite. The league was home to legendary players like Julius "Dr. J" Erving, George Gervin, and Moses Malone, who dazzled audiences with their incredible athleticism and skills.
In 1976, the ABA merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA), with four ABA teams—Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New York Nets (now Brooklyn Nets), and San Antonio Spurs—joining the NBA. This merger left an indelible mark on professional basketball, introducing the three-point shot and other dynamic elements that are now staples of the game.
The Modern ABA
Today, the ABA has been revitalized and expanded beyond its original scope, becoming the largest professional sports organization in the world. With over 160 teams spread across the United States and internationally, the ABA provides a platform for players to showcase their talents, pursue their dreams, and entertain fans with the same thrilling style that made the league famous.
The modern ABA is dedicated to community involvement and development, fostering local talent, and providing affordable family entertainment. Each team is deeply embedded in its community, working with local businesses and organizations to support various causes and initiatives.
